In tomorrow's RG: Men's swimsuits
swimsuit issue, free with tomorrow's edition of The Royal Gazette.
"We originally started the men's swimsuit issue in 1993 as a tongue-in-cheek version of Sports Illustrated's swimsuit edition,'' explained RG's Managing Editor Chris Gibbons. "We thought, `Why not give women something to look at for a change?' Since then it's very quickly established its own tradition and we know a lot of our women readers really look forward to it each year. I don't think they will be disappointed with this year's spread.'' In keeping with RG's reputation for doing something different, the 1995 issue features men in skirts, or rather sarongs. The all-purpose wraparounds have long been a part of a man's wardrobe in many Far Eastern countries and are now making a colourful splash on some of California and Florida's beaches. "Our fashion shoots are a very defining aspect of the magazine,'' said Mr. Gibbons.
"We try and do something a little out of the ordinary, and I think it sets us apart from other local publications and gives us a bit more of a creative `edge'.'' Mr. Gibbons said credit for the eight-page spread goes to RG Art Director Dana Cooper and photographer Marshall DeCouto who pulled off the project despite some distinctly unseasonal weather during late May that played havoc with the shoot schedule. Model Glenmore Wilks is featured on the cover.
The 76-page July RG also features a profile of controversial Body Shop founder Anita Roddick; a preview of the World Youth Sailing Championships, which will be held in Bermuda for the first time; and Roger Crombie surveys the singles scene; while RG's annual Homes and Gardens section includes tips on laying the perfect lawn, affordable air conditioning and how to control your house at the push of a button.
