Do street signs mean anything
January 20, 2013Dear Sir,Are we really interested in curbing road rage, reckless driving, third laning and refusing to stop at stop signs? We have road signs that are not obeyed, take ‘Terceira Highway’ going out of Hamilton on East Broadway, it says ‘Reduce Speed, Slow Down’, it doesn’t mean anything to most drivers. I drive at between 39mph to 43mph on our roads and people tell me I’m driving too slow, if that’s the case, then let’s increase the speed limits, we are past the time of having the 35mph limit in place. We have signs that say you are in a radar speed zone or to that effect, but it means nothing unless you institute radar zone for real. We seem to have plenty of motorcycle police officers for ceremonial purposes or running races or Cup Match. More police officers on motorcycles will slow down our road rage, speeding and third laning if we had motorcycle police officers on our roads 24/7. Just last year I have written two Letters to the Editor about the same subject (February 2, 2012 and April, 25 2012) but it goes unheard. Let’s not just come out three or four days a year with motorcycle officers. If we don’t have enough personnel or vehicles then let’s increase our police service.PETER BROMBY SrPaget
