Tucker blasts five sixes in an over on way to century
Southampton Rangers 300-8
Western Stars 206
Janeiro Tucker gave Western Stars' bowlers a mauling with his bat yesterday when he hammered a fierce 105 in Southampton Rangers' 94-run Premier Division victory at Southampton Oval.
Stars' bowlers could never had anticipated such a vicious assault from the player-coach, Tucker in no mood to play cautiously and allow any one bowler to get the upper hand.
Treated with disdain and no respect whatsoever in particular was Stars' skipper and leading pace bowler Justin Robinson _ Tucker blasting him unmercifully for five sixes in one over, Robinson managing a dot ball with his fifth delivery to avoid the distinction of giving up a maximum and rather humiliating six sixes.
All together Tucker finished hitting seven fours and eight sixes in his busy inning, Southampton also getting valuable batting help from Keith Wainwright with 42, skipper Kwame Tucdker on 47 and young Stefan Dill on 30.
Gershon Gibbons was the best bowler for Stars with three for 44 off 10 overs and two maidens while Raymond Butterfield had two for 52 off 10 overs.
After his torrid batting display Tucker turned around and spearheaded Southampton's bowling, finishing with three for 43 off 7.4 overs and a maiden while Quinton Sherlock claimed two for 30 off 10 overs with two maidens.
Southampton, defending league champions and out of the title race this season, move up the tables one notch from sixth to fifth with the win while Stars remain in last place.
