PLP names two more
will join the ranks of Progressive Labour Party candidates in the next general election.
Ms Butterfield, 39, will contest the already busy Pembroke West Central constituency where United Bermuda Party candidates the Hon. Ann Cartwright DeCouto and Sen. Jerome Dill have already fired the first salvos against Independent MP Mr. Stuart Hayward.
Party Leader Mr. Frederick Wade said a decision had not yet been made on where 46-year-old Dr. Brown would run. "We want to do more surveys to see what's out there,'' he said.
When asked where he wanted to run as a candidate, Dr. Brown, who runs medical practices here and in Los Angeles, said: "I do have some interest in the east, and I have been approached by people in the west, and I am not leaving out the central area.'' Mr. Wade dismissed a question about reported party reluctance to take on Dr.
Brown as an approved candidate because he lives off the Island for months at a time.
"That is not a party concern,'' he said. "We're satisfied Dr. Brown is a resident of Bermuda.'' Mr. Wade referred to the Party's tourism critic, Mr. David Allen, whose work abroad as a travel writer did not interfere with his ability to represent the voters.
Issues Dr. Brown said he was concerned with included fairness in the labour arena, improving health standards, the lack of racial harmony and current economic doldrums.
Ms Butterfield, who runs a Christian private computer school from her Pembroke home, said she would focus on single parent issues such as effective child care.
DR. Ewart Brwon MS Neletha Butterfield.
