A host of Government fees go up from today ? with most rising by five percent in the first hike in two years.

Duty on cigarettes will be increased by $5 a carton to bring in an extra $1.6 million while vehicle licence fees will go up by an average of five percent for an extra $1.3 million.

Bus and ferry fees will rise for the first time since 2000 ? with the hike going to raise an additional $660,000.

With buses and ferries the price of a child's cash fare doubles to $2; a child's ticket book for 15 trips goes from $7 to $7.50; a school pass is up from $40 to $45; a 14-zone adult bus ticket book goes from $25.50 to $30 while ferry users pay the same for out of Hamilton Harbour trips; a three-zone adult bus ticket book is up from $16 to $20 and that same book can be used for in-harbour trips. An adult pass for 40 trips goes from $45 to $55; and an adult 90-day pass goes from $120 to $135.

An adult seven day pass is raised from $36 to $45; a three-day pass goes from $23 to $28; and a one day pass jumps from $11 to $12.

Moped licence fees rise from $51.60 to $54.75 while car licences go up between five percent and 5.5 percent but figures on the various categories were not available.

The payroll tax standard rate rises from 12.75 percent to 13.5 percent, applicable to all firms with payrolls higher than $200,000 per year, and the payroll tax salary cap will be raised from $225,000 to $235,000. Employers will foot the bill for the increase while the employees' share remains unchanged at 4.75 percent.

Excluded from any payroll tax rate increases are businesses affected by Hurricane Fabian, including those in agriculture, hospitality, charities and small businesses.
