Driver more than twice over limit

A woman who crashed her car into a wall on Trimingham Hill, Paget, claimed she only had one drink before the accident, but a breath test showed she was more than twice over the limit.

Kim Faiella told Police she had swerved to avoid a cat in the road and collided with a roadside wall on April 12.

Prosecutor Anthony Blackman told Magistrates? Court that Police arrived at the scene of a single vehicle accident and found a Mitsubishi car had struck the southern wall along Trimingham Hill.

He said the officers spoke to Faiella, who was the driver, and noticed that she had glazed eyes and there was the smell of intoxicants on her breath.

Mr. Blackman said: ?She claimed a cat ran across the road. They asked her if she had had a drink. She replied she had drunk one beer.?

The court was told that a breath test had subsequently shown Faiella had an alcohol level of 187 milligrammes in 100 millilitres of blood, the legal limit is 80 mg.

Appearing in court, Faiella, 19, of Tanglewood, Paget, pleaded guilty to impaired driving and was fined $1,000 and banned from driving all vehicles for 12 months.
