Jennifer battles achilles pain and finds inspiration in David

Jennifer Wills: Finding that basketball is more than just a sweatfest.

It's just past the half way mark in the 100 Day Challenge and Jennifer Hume and David Paynter have been publicly charting their progress in The Royal Gazette. Today, Jennifer admits she has been inspired by David's dedication.

Finally finding her motivation, Jennifer Hume, The Royal Gazette's weekly 100 Day Challenge participant, continued to fight through the pain of a sore Achilles heel to workout with Marathon Melissa.

Also this week a chance to meet and speak with David Paynter, the other columnist, also led to another reason for her to keep moving — her life.

Thursday, 6 March

Week two of basketball was much more of a sweatfest! We're continuing to work on learning new skills but we also did quite a bit of running up and down the court.

Coach Tim keeps us moving for the whole hour and a half — no time for chitchat or cooling out!

I felt quite accomplished at the end of the night and I'm also enjoying the social side of it. I can't remember the last time I went to a regular weekly event.

Friday, 7 March

Today I met up with David (the dude in the next column) and Robyn, who puts our columns together each week.

We took some photos and chatted a bit about our progress and our continuing goals.

It was good to talk to David as he's been far more dedicated than I have throughout this process and seeing how well he's doing is inspiring.

It was also a reality check to hear about his friend who passed away; a real reminder of how important our health really is and that we shouldn't take it for granted.

Monday, 10 March

I should have known that declaring, "I'm not going to bail out any more" was a bad idea.

Just as I was feeling more energetic and starting to enjoy the exercise I have been forced to grind to a halt.

My Achilles tendon has been very unhappy since yesterday.

It flares up every now and then, hurts like heck for a few days and then goes away and I forget about it. Today it's still quite sore.

I did still go to Marathon Melissa's house tonight to visit her and her hubby and their supercool cat, Newton, but no exercise for us.

Instead, Melissa introduced me to a new healthy snack while I was there- plain yogurt, banana, walnuts and a bit of honey.

I have to admit that I was skeptical, especially about the walnuts. Walnuts, to me, are just a way to ruin a perfectly good brownie.

However, the concoction was pretty tasty and I felt very virtuous after eating it. I may even attempt to recreate it at home!

Tuesday, 11 March

My heel is feeling a bit better today. Hopefully it will be fine for basketball on Thursday.

Wednesday, 12 March

My heel is more uncomfortable tonight than it was last night. Not good.

I need a magic cure by tomorrow night.
