Yacht returns with injured sailor

A crew member on a yacht was injured in heavy seas off the Island and taken to hospital last night.

A Rhode Island-bound yacht made an unexpected return to the island last night after a crew member was injured in bad weather.

Bermuda Maritime Operations said the 50ft Peekaboo arrived in Bermuda on November 12 from Rhode Island and set out to return on Sunday.

But the boat turned back to the island after a crew member’s shoulder was injured as the vessel encountered high seas and high winds.

Peekaboo reached Ordnance Island, St George’s just before midnight yesterday and the crew member was taken to hospital by waiting ambulance.

It is understood he was released after treatment and returned to the yacht.
