Blues hit another low not by Patrick Bean

The Hyderabad Blues tour came to a merciful end with the visitors relegated to the losers role for the sixth consecutive time, this time being feasted upon by a Bermuda Select.

Displaying the most hearty of appetites was Dexter Basden, carving up 76 runs in an innings mixed with patience and aggression.

Also demonstrated was a good communication level between Basden and Devrae Hollis, his opening partner, as he ran well between the wickets to the tune of 73 runs for the first wicket.

Despite starting slowly -- just 15 runs were scored from the first six overs -- the pair eventually developed an affinity for the Indian bowlers and it was Basden taking up the slack first.

Once in stride the Willow Cuts captain cut loose, lofting three towering sixes, including two off left-arm spinner Abrar Ahmed. He also hit three fours against an outfield so painfully slow that boundaries were a rarity.

Basden reached his 50 in 78 minutes, but was immediately forced into taking on a new partner when Hollis spooned an easy catch to Vikray Mansingh in the mid-on region and was gone for 19.

Captain Albert Steede, who had been lethal with the bat in previous outings against Hyderabad, looked like causing a stir after smashing a six from the fourth ball he faced. But he would soon fall leg-before-wicket to the tantalising spin of Ahmed at 11.

Similarly enduring a brief stay in the middle was Charlie Marshall (nought) who was undone by a fine piece of fielding by the visitors as he was run out attempting a cheeky single with Basden.

Living a charmed life was Basden, who survived several botched stumpings by Kiran Kumar.

Sensing a need to cut loose, the former threw caution to the wind as he repeatedly shuffled forward in search of the big hit.

He was finally undone by Ramakrishnan Sridhar, who induced Basden forward a final time and saw Kumar make no mistake in removing the bails.

Bermuda would lose one more wicket on the way to victory, that of Lionel Cann (two), as Graham Fox (10) and Anthony Manders (seven) stood unbeaten at the end.

Bermuda's innings were in stark contrast to that of Hyderabad as the youthful bunch made the mistake of creating too small a target for the local side to chase.

The trend of their early and middle-order batsmen failing continued as the medium pace attack of Bermuda kept scorekeepers busy with the flow from the pavilion.

Only Vinay Kumar (21) and Rohti Mahendra (20) showed the ability to get the ball away on a consistent basis. Mahendra dazzled for a while, stroking a four and a six before being caught off the bowling of Kenny Phillip. Vinay took the more defensive approach, content to notch singles before he became Wayne Richardson's first victim.

Others in double figures included Kiran (10), Naresh Sharma (13), Gagan Malik (12) and Phaninder Prakash (14 not out).

Meanwhile, Blades and Clarkie Trott did most of the bowling damage. Blades, on his debut for a Bermuda representative team, impressed with economical figures of three for 23, while Trott was even more stingy, his two wickets coming at a cost of just 15 runs in 10 overs.

Others taking wickets were Wayne Richardson with two and Cann one.

DEXTER BASDEN -- Looked thoroughly at ease carving up 76 runs against Blues yesterday.
