The Bermuda Farmer?s Market will be closing for the summer on Saturday.

The market is in its third year of operation and manager Frances Eddy said it has enjoyed a successful season despite opening one month late as a result of Hurricane Fabian, which hurt crop growth last September.

Vendor participation grew throughout the season to a total of 31, with primarily vegetables and other local products on offer at the market, she said.

The markey has been held at Bull?s Head car park every Saturday morning until noon.

Many new items were offered for sale this year including locally-raised chickens and eggs, breads and other baked goods (which were weekly sell-outs), hot pepper jams, Bermuda-themed scented candles, Trinidadian hot foods, cedar boxes made by prisoners, Bonsai trees, fruit trees and a variety of flowers.

Missing, however, from this year?s produce was local honey, as Bermuda?s beekeeping industry struggled to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Fabian.

The industry is expected to recover by Autumn.

The Market is expected to re-open in November.
