In 1994, 7,594 visitors arrived by air during the same period last year compared to 7,701 a year ago. Similarly, 1,586 more visitors came by cruise ship in 1995 compared to 1994. In 1994 the season had ended by this period so no cruise arrivals were recorded.

Overall 32,750 fewer visitors -- 518,303 in 1995; 551,053 in 1994 -- came by air and on cruise ships between January 1, and November 5, 1995 compared to the same period in 1994.

T-SHIRTS AND JACKETS SWIPED FROM SHOP CRM T-shirts and jackets swiped from shop Twelve T-shirts with surfing motifs and pictures of Bob Marley and six Patagonia jackets were taken from the Sail On shop in the Walker Arcade when a thief gained entry to the store room.

The six jackets are in blue and brown colours and a Police spokesman said detectives believe that the offender may try to sell these items. Consequently the public is urged to be vigilant and to contact Police at 295-0011 if they see any of these items.

TCD EXAMINERS GOING BACK TO SCHOOL TRA TCD examiners going back to school Next Tuesday the Police Driving School will begin a four-day cycle course for three Transport Control Department examiners.

The first series of this type was held in August and two senior TCD examiners passed the course at that time.

During the upcoming week, the motorcyclists under instruction will be travelling around the island wearing fluorescent reflective jackets.

The aim of the course is to improve personal riding skills and to enhance their examining ability in preparation for the examination procedures for auxiliary and motorcycle licences.

NEW SCHEDULE FOR FEEE GARDENS TOURS GVT New schedule for free Gardens tours Unlike previous years the free tours of the Botanical Gardens will follow its summer schedule throughout the winter instead of changing.

Curator Miss Sarah Vallis said there would be tours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays starting at 10.30 a.m. in the parking lot which would last about an hour and a half.

She said visitors would be invited to look at a video of the gardens in the Visitor Centre if there was wet weather.

Miss Vallis added she hoped visitors and residents would take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the gardens year round.
