Boy's handcuff game backfires
when he accidentally handcuffed himself.
Lee Swan of Bailey's Bay had been at his uncle's home playing with a pair of metal handcuffs, when he locked them onto his wrists by mistake.
His uncle, Mr. Conrad Wales, could not find the key for the handcuffs and took him to the St. George's Police Station expecting officers there to be able to unlock them.
But, after examining the handcuffs, the officers found they were not the property of Bermuda Police but from overseas.
Lee was then escorted to the Hamilton Fire Station where firemen eventually removed the handcuffs with a hacksaw.
According to his grandmother, the Francis Patton School student was none the worse for the experience.
OUTWARD BOUND YTH Outward bound Outward Bound's annual initiative courses begin this month with a host of outdoor activities.
The event, organised by the Police Department, requires pre-teens and teens to spend a week on Paget Island in St. George's.
Between June 29 and August 28, boys and girls can become involved in several activities including abseiling, mountain climbing, canoeing, kayaking, and rope courses, said event co-ordinator Mr. Mark Norman.
Youths from ages 12 to 15 will spend Monday to Friday on the Island at a cost of $85. Days begin at 9 a.m. with instruction lasting until 4.30 p.m.
"We have a few spaces left,'' said Mr. Norman. "Interested parents can either call the office at 299-4257 or collect applications from the administration office at the Police Department.'' In the latest an intruder leapt from the window of a couple's home in Middle Road after being disturbed.
The couple had been alerted by noises from their bedroom at around 9.30 p.m.

Also during the night a thief fled with a navy blue nylon bag containing $600 and various belongings from a property in Riviera Road.
The two incidents follow four break-ins the previous night in the same area.
Police spokeswoman Sgt. Andrea Browne yesterday urged residents between Camp Road and the Southampton Princess Hotel to be wary of thieves.
"They should be particularly vigilant with regard to home safety,'' she said.
POLICE APPEAL POL Police appeal Police yesterday appealed for two tourists who may have witnessed a road accident to come forward.
The accident between a blue car and a female cyclist occurred on the railway trail off Middle Road, Southampton, at 3.30 p.m. on Monday. Nobody was hurt.
It is thought a couple riding a red Honda Lead livery bike along the railway track may be witnesses.
They are urged to contact Sgt. Alderson at Somerset Police Station on 234-1010.
FOUND ASLEEP CTS Found asleep A 22-year-old Southampton man and a 21-year-old Smith's Parish woman are expected to appear in court shortly after being found asleep in an empty apartment.
The pair were discovered by the owner of the property in Spice Hill Road, Warwick, at around 4 a.m. yesterday.
