PHC made further inroads towards a second straight Women’s Futsal League title at Warwick Academy at the weekend, but not before having to dig deep to shrug off the threat of a gutsy Footy Force Stars.

The league leaders were pushed to near breaking point, but ultimately prevailed 5-4 in an evenly contested affair that provided plenty of entertainment for the fans.

Jessica Furtado led PHC’s charge with a hat-trick while Kalay Hollis and Raeesah Shakir chipped in with one apiece. K’Shaela Burch- Waldron scored twice for the losing team, with Cheyra Bell and Danielle Foot also getting on the scoresheet.

The result enabled PHC to maintain a six-point cushion over Somerset, while Stars slipped from second to third.

Somerset were Saturday’s biggest winners. The west-enders bounced back from a shock defeat by Footy Force Stars with an emphatic 11-1 rout of Young Men’s Social Club, the bottom side.

Shauntae Todd led the way for Somerset with four goals, Eva Frazzonia and Dahzjah Greaves netted three apiece and Sierra Fisher one. Winless Social Club replied through Deborah Menezes.

In the remaining match, Dandy Stars came from behind to edge Hamilton Parish 5-4.

Parish jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but were unable to keep their rivals at bay.

Cleshaunay Darrell-Virgil and D Allen netted twice apiece for the victors while Nia Christopher also got in on the scoring act.

Jayda Hill-Steede and Karen deChabert had a pair of goals each in a losing cause for Parish.
