The charge was not clear in a report printed yesterday. Mr. Robinson's co-accused is Bermudian Customs officer Betty Azzario, not Brenda.

A Bermuda Customs officer and local football player are facing 20 years behind bars in the United States after pleading guilty to exporting cocaine.

Canine Customs officer Brenda Azzario and Vasco midfielder Dennis Robinson both admitted to the drugs charges laid in New York last week.

Both face a maximum prison term of twenty years each, though sentencing dates have not been scheduled.

Customs officer, footballer face 20 years in US jail Azzario was caught red handed carrying a kilo-and-a-half of cocaine wrapped in Bermuda Customs tape, by US Drug Enforcement agency officers last December.

Arrested at New York's JFK Airport on December 21, 1999, as she tried to board a plane bound for Bermuda, Mrs. Azzario, a mother of four young children, complied with DEA agents and led them to her boyfriend, Robinson, the following day.

The couple have been detained in a Manhattan detention centre since their arrests last year and were formally charged with exportation of a controlled drug and illicit drug conspiracy.

According to the attorney handling the case, Azzario admitted her guilt from the outset but Robinson did not confess until last Friday.
