Man hits another with metal pipe

with a metal pipe on Thursday. A spokesperson said the 46-year-old Warwick man was walking along Par-la-Ville Road in Hamilton with a friend when the incident occurred.

According to officers, the attacker cursed the man before striking him with the piece of pipe across the left side of his head and leg. The man was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment to a deep gash on his head.

He received a number of stitches and was released.

"Detectives are continuing enquiries and are interested in speaking to anyone who might have seen the assault to contact them at Central CID,'' the spokesperson said. "The culprit is described as black and wearing black pants and a brown vest.'' POLICE PROBE RASH OF BREAK-INS CRM Police probe rash of break-ins Police yesterday reported a number of break-ins on Thursday. A woman returned to her Cambridge Road, Sandys, home around 5 p.m. and found a window broken. A Police spokesperson said although it is not believed anything was stolen, someone had rummaged through the woman's belongings.

A home on Acacia Lane in Sandys was also broken into and a wallet containing approximately $45 and miscellaneous papers was stolen. The spokesperson also said a clock, electric engraver, a fan, three pairs of scissors and three photo frames were stolen from Berkeley Institute School in Pembroke.

And a break-in was also reported at the new Testament Church of God on Curving Avenue in Pembroke. Entry was gained by a window on the eastern side of the church. It was not known if anything was stolen.

PLANNERS OKAY NEW HOMES, WAREHOUSE PLN Planners okay new homes, warehouse Planners have given Mr. Myron A. Piper the go-ahead for eight more homes at Spice Berry Lane, Warwick. The Development Applications Board approved his application in principle, subject to details.

Permission was also given to Mill Creek Properties for a workshop/storage building at a boatyard at Mill Creek Lane, Pembroke. The site must have parking for a minimum of 25 cars, the board ruled.

OUTBOARD ENGINE STOLEN FROM YACHT CRM Outboard engine stolen from yacht A four horsepower Evinrude engine was reported stolen this past week. A Police spokesperson said the engine went missing from a 20-foot white and beige sailboat moored at Mullett Bay in St. George's sometime over the past couple of days. TEMPTATION TOO MUCH FOR CLEANER CTS Temptation too much for cleaner Stealing from his employer for his family cost a 30-year-old Warwick man $150 in Magistrates' Court this week. Jeffrey Hill, of Spice Hill, pleaded guilty to stealing $121 worth of goods from Modern Mart where he worked as a cleaner.

Hill tried to leave the store on South Road in Paget on April 29 with goods, which ranged from chocolates to fish, the court heard. A security guard saw him leaving the store with the items around 11 p.m. on that date and asked Hill to produce a receipt, Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said.

"I'm sorry it was for my family,'' Hill told Police when he was arrested.

Apologising to Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis, Hill said: "It was tempting to me, working there by myself''.

SMOKING A JOINT COST MAN $150 CTS Smoking a joint cost man $150 A 28-year-old Devonshire man caught smoking a marijuana joint was this week fined $150 in Magistrates Court. Danny Elroy Eve, of Cedar Park, pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis.

Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said Police in the Cedar Park area saw Eve smoking a hand-rolled cigarette which smelled of cannabis. When he saw them he dropped the cigarette in a yard nearby, Insp. Duffy said. Police retrieved the cigarette, which was still lit, and showed it to Eve who later admitted at Hamilton Police Station that it was his.

Eve was last convicted in February, 1990, of handling a controlled drug with intent to supply. He received two and a half years in prison for that offence.

Duty counsel Mr. Kim White asked Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis to take into account Eve's cooperation with Police and the amount of the drug.

"There was no other narcotic substance found in the area,'' Mr. White said.

"There is no question that this was for his personal use.'' SENATOR POSES SOME TAX QUESTIONS CTS Senator poses some tax questions Opposition Sen.
