Drunk driver should have `caught a taxi'
driving.
Diogo Fernandes, 32, of South Road was involved in an accident in November of this year, when his motorcycle collided with car.
When Police questioned Fernandes they found that his breath smelled strongly of alcohol, his eyes were glazed and his speech was slurred.
"It was my fault. I should have caught a taxi,'' Fernandes said after he had told Police that he had had seven or eight drinks.
Fernandes was fined $500 and disqualified from driving all motor vehicles for the next 12 months.
In an unrelated case, Tekeste Goater, of Loyal Hill, Devonshire, pleaded guilty to several charges including driving without due care.
Goater, 18, was involved in an accident on Harbour Road in October of this year.
He attempted to overtake a car on his motorcycle by passing on the left hand side when he struck it.
Goater and his passenger got back on the bike and left the scene without giving any information to the car owner or Police.
Goater also pleaded guilty to speeding at 59 kph and driving without a valid dirver's licence.
Although he was not banned from driving, his fines totalled $820.
