A former Cup Match cricketer for St. George?s was released after he pleaded not guilty to wounding a senior officer of the Bermuda Regiment and possessing an unlawful weapon in public.

Yesterday at Magistrates? Court, 25-year-old Jason Anderson was accused of wounding Lance Corporal Rupert Lambert with a broomstick. Mr. Lambert received stitches to his head as well as scratches and cuts on his body.

Anderson also pleaded not guilty to two regimental matters. He was charged with being a long-term absentee; he has allegedly failed to show up for his regimental duties since May 18. He is also accused of resisting arrest.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner released Anderson on bail and set his trial for October 25.
