A 17-year-old youth was brought before court yesterday accused of the attempted murder of a security guard at CedarBridge Academy.

Jahmel Eugene Mallory is accused of stabbing 31-year-old security officer Kariim Wales several times while he patrolled the school property before the start of lessons on March 27 this year.

Mr. Wales suffered a collapsed lung and spent two days in the Intensive Care Unit of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital after the attack, which is alleged to have taken place in the Ruth Seaton James Auditorium.

Yesterday morning's appearance was the first time the teenager, of Tommy Fox Road, St. George's, had been brought before Magistrates' Court.

He was not asked to enter a plea to the charge of attempted murder by Magistrate William Francis, and was remanded in custody at St. Brendan's Hospital to reappear on Thursday morning, when his defence lawyer Llewelyn Peniston will be able to attend. Mallory, a former student at CedarBridge Academy, was accompanied in the hearing by members of his family.

Prosecutor in the case is Vinette Graham-Allen and acting for Mr. Peniston yesterday was lawyer Darrell Clarke.
