24-year-old Pembroke man in Hamilton last Wednesday.

Their alleged victim remains in a critical condition with serious head and facial injuries in the Intensive Care Unit at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Gareth Randoph Bean, of Cochrane Road, Sandys, Curtis Anthony Grant, of Tween Walls, Sandys, and Jerome Quinton Robinson, of Devon Lane, Devonshire were not required to enter a plea.

They were charged with unlawfully wounding the man with the intent of doing grevious bodily harm in the 5 a.m. attack at the junction of Church and Court Streets.

Crown Counsel Larry Mussendon objected to bail for each of the men.

But defence counsel Mark Pettingill argued that it would be "draconian'' for the court to remand them in custody.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis granted bail to each of the three men -- all aged 28 -- for $3,000 with a like surety.

Mr. Francis said the bail was granted on the condition that the men forfeited their passports, reported to Police three times a week and had no contact with the alleged victim or other possible witnesses.

He adjourned the case for a mention on December 14.

DRUNK DRIVER TAKES AIM AT POLICE CTS Drunk driver takes aim at Police Police had to dive out of the way when a drunk driver almost ran them down as he was being asked to stop, Magistrates' Court heard yesterday.

Edward Ambrose Burcher, 51, a labourer of Friswell Lane, Pembroke, pleaded guilty to a charge of driving while impaired.

The court heard that Burcher did not slow down for Police officers making routine vehicle checks on Church Street at around 11 p.m. on October 14.

When they signalled for him to pull over he drove straight toward them at high speed, forcing them to take evasive action to avoid being hit.

He was stopped and Police noticed he had slurred speech and his breath smelled of alcohol.

Asked whether he had been drinking Burcher replied: "No, I had a couple of beers.'' A breath test indicated 120 milligrams of alcohol was present in 100 millilitres of blood -- exceeding the legal driving limit of 80 milligrams.

Burcher apologised for wasting the court's time and asked if he could possibly keep his licence since he needed it for work.

But Senior Magistrate Will Francis told him the law did not permit that.

He disqualified Burcher from driving any vehicle for 12 months and fined him $400.

ST. DAVID'S MAN WARNED TO BEHAVE CTS St. David's man warned to behave A man told Police he would blow their testicles off with a gun as he was arrested for using offensive words, a court heard yesterday.

Micheal Winslow Minors, 54, of Cove Valley Road, St. David's, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to using offensive words and uttering threatening words on November 6.

The court heard Minors was sitting at the Washington Street bus station around 4.45 p.m. when Police approached him about an earlier incident.

The Department of Works and Engineering civil servant became agitated, pointed at another man, and said: "You don't know what the f*** is going on. Why don't you f***ing talk to him?'' Police asked what the problem was and he swore again.

When Police began to arrest Minors he screamed loudly: "When I get a gun I'm going to stick it up your ass and blow your testicles off.'' Minors told the court he had been intoxicated and could not explain his actions.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis fined him $250 and warned him to behave.
