North Village Devils were unlucky to lose the game with Hornets on Tuesday night after being in control for much of the early innings.
They held a 6-3 lead up to the fourth only to see Hornets hit back to win 10-9 in eight innings. Hornets managed to tie up the game in the bottom half of the seventh inning when they scored two runs with a timely bunt by Richard Scott with two outs.
Devils scored twice in their half of the eighth innings before Hornets replied by scoring three more times with one out. The winning run was scored when Dennis Pamplin came home from second on Elliott Perinchief's base hit.
Elliott Perinchief went two-for-three while Steven Perinchief went two-for-four for Hornets. Antonio Clark went three-for-four and Richard Basden and Preston Mallory both two-for-four.
Steven Perinchief, with five strikeouts, was the winning pitcher while Richard Basden suffered the loss despite recording seven strikeouts.
Warwick hammered Canadian Sharks 15-1 after posting four runs off four hits in the first inning and six runs off four hits in the second to take an early lead. Frank Morgan's two-run triple in the first was the winning RBI.
Morgan went two-for-three, including six RBI, while Dane Brown and Kevin Angell both went three-for-four. Kim Hutchinson and Alain Roberts both went two-for-three for Sharks. Vagunel Smith was the winning pitcher while Hutchinson suffered the loss. Smith had five strikeouts while Hutchinson had three.
In the night's other game G/C edged by Flying Chef 7-6. G/C got on the scoreboard with two runs off four hits. Three more runs in the fifth tied up the game at 5-5 before Flying Chef handed them the game in the bottom of the seventh when they allowed two runs to score with errors by short centre-fielder Paul Martin.
An overthrow by Chris Montgomery then allowed pitcher Randy Richardson to score the winning run from third.
Richardson had a two-for-three night while Robbie Butler went two-for-four and Larry Barnet three-for-four.
CRICKET CRI The Open League fixture between Devonshire Rec. and Police, which was not played on August 16 because of Devonshire's tour of England, has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 26, the final weekend of the season.
Meanwhile, the Shell Youth (15 and under) Tournament semifinal between St.
David's and Southampton is scheduled for St. David's on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. The winners will meet Nationals in the final.
