People who attended a funeral last Saturday have been advised to quarantine.

The request came as the health ministry reported that ten positive cases of coronavirus were received yesterday.

A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health said this afternoon: “An individual who attended the funeral of Charles Henry Eugene Eberly on November 28 at Malabar has since tested positive for Covid-19.

“We are advising any member of the public who attended this event to call the Covid-19 hotline 444-2498 to arrange Covid-19 testing tomorrow afternoon.

“In the meantime, we are advising individuals who attended this funeral to quarantine from others outside of their household until they are advised by the Ministry of Health.”

The spokeswoman added: “We are issuing this advisory out of an abundance of caution as the most expedient way to contact all those individuals who may have attended the funeral.”

The Ministry reported that it had received 1,062 test results on Friday, ten of which were positive.

Of the new cases, one was imported – a resident who returned to the island on November 29 on the Delta flight from New York.

The patient had a negative pre-arrival test and a negative arrival test, but had a positive day four test.

A total of four new cases were the result of local transmission from a known contact – one from household contact, one from workplace contact and two from social contact.

The other five new cases were under investigation.

The new cases brought the total number of Covid cases in Bermuda to 288, 63 of which were still active.

Two patients are in hospital, and one is in critical care.

The seven-day average of our real time reproduction number is 1.08 and Bermuda’s current country status is “Clusters of Cases”.
