Ginette Spinucci returned from her Georgia home this weekend to retain her share of the Bermuda Mixed Foursome Championship.

In 1991 she won the trophy with Robert Vallis, while this year she teamed up with Henry Ascento to take the low gross prize.

The pair beat Glenn Simmons and Pat Morgan by five strokes.

Trevor Madeiros and Alora Rabain shot a fine 73 on the first day to hold second place behind Ascento and Spinucci but could not maintain their challenge.

They did, however, have the consolation of taking the Sir George Somers Trophy as low net winners.

The tournament will be played in three age categories -- 12 and under, 13 to 14, and 15 and over.

Last year's overall winner Duncan Zelkin will be defending his title this week, when he is likely to be hard pressed by Chris Garland and Jimmy Legere.

In the 13 to 14 group, Craig Brown, Robbie Spurling and Quinton Sherlock are expected to fight for the honours, while 11-year-old Justin Barritt should have things his own way in the 12-and-under group.

Bailey's Bay will hold a meeting tomorrow for all club golfers (6 p.m.).

HOCKEY HOC Rebels and Wasps International continued their rivalry in the end-of-season Bermuda Hockey Association Cup.

The two teams, who had battled it out for league honours before Wasps finally emerged as champions, were always going to produce a hard-fought game. And they did not disappoint.

It was Wasps who had marginally the better of the encounter, but they could not manage to find the net.

Even when veteran Chris Edmunds came on to replace injured Wasps winger Stan Lee, they could still not find the winning touch.

So it went to extra time, with the prospect of penalty flicks looking highly likely.

However, with less than 10 minutes left, Wasps' right half Gordie Shaw picked up a deflected short corner attempt, dribbled the ball towards net and, with a fake pass accross the goalmouth, slipped the ball under 'keeper Nigel Pichery's pads.

Theat was enough to clinch it for Wasps despite a supreme last-ditch effortt by Rebels.

It was the perfect end to a perfect season for Wasps, who survived undefeated, sweeping the board and winning every trophy available.
