Unbeaten Lewis lifts Open title

Darts player Bart Lewis captured his first Open singles championship at BAA on Monday night when he defeated Steve Hickmott 2-0 in the final.

In the double elimination tournament, Hickmott actually lost his first match of the night but then lifted his game and progressed to the final by beating his next six opponents.

Lewis, on the other hand, remained unbeaten throughout the evening.

Hickmott would have had to have beaten Lewis twice in order to have lifted the championship but in a closely fought final, Lewis' finishing proved too good.

The tournament, which attracted 17 players, saw some excellent darts with two 180s (maximum score) by Hickmott and Almeida as well as numerous scores of 140 and 100.

Next major event on the calendar is the Champ of Champs on Monday, April 7 at BPSU, starting at 8.30 p.m..
