New York activist Al Sharpton is slated to be in Bermuda tomorrow as guest speaker at the Bermuda Industrial Union?s gala banquet.

Union spokesman Chris Furbert yesterday confirmed Mr. Sharpton will be in attendance and said it is hoped that he will also address the crowds who turn out at Bernard Park on Labour Day.

Mr. Furbert said that tickets to tomorrow night?s event were selling fast. The banquet will take place at the Fairmont Southampton Hotel beginning around 7.30. A cocktail reception before hand will start at 6 p.m. Tickets are $75 and available from the BIU.

On Monday Labour Day festivities will begin with a march from the BIU headquarters to Bernard Park at 11.30 a.m. The day will feature entertainment and a slew of speakers including either the Premier or the Deputy Premier, Opposition Leader Grant Gibbons, BIU president Derrick Burgess, BPSU general secretary Ed Ball, a spokesperson for the Bermuda Union of Teachers and possibly Mr. Sharpton.
