East End fight card to feature 11 bouts

The feature bout will be a three, three-minute round contest between Tom Respondeck (187-lbs) of the Navy and English-born local resident David Hope (187-lbs).

Another US-England match-up will see Andre Salley of the Base take on Bob Buckel who hails from Norfolk, England. Both will weigh in at 215-lbs.

Another interesting fight matches local resident Mike Whalley and Robert Stewart, an Englishman who is on vacation here. Stewart gives away 10lbs to Whalley, 140 to 150.

Stewart boasts a 40-win, seven loss record and was originally scheduled to fight Chris Scales, a former Golden Gloves fighter from Boston. However, Scales suffered a bike accident and had to withdraw.

Other fights will see Steve Rish (130) of the Navy taking on Tim O'Leary (145), Matt Kossart (153) of the Navy fighting Vincent Roberts (146) in three, two minute round fights and Haley Douglas (180) meeting Brian Steede (175) in a special bout of five, one minute rounds.

Frederick Gibbons (155) will go against Timmy Saints (160) while Vernal Hosten (183) of the Navy will take on Tim Perry (175). The challenge fights include Brandon (Pickles) Robinson (192) against Phillip Bailey Sr. (186), Stiles Furbert (230) against Norton (Pit Bull) Robinson (190) and Edward (Canvas Kid) Waldron against Andre Cannonier.

Boxers are to report at 7 p.m. for a medical check and weigh-in. Attendants are Mike Jenkins and Ed McCann of the Base and locals Alan Rego, John Philpott, Quinton Mallory and Gary Smith. MC is Joe Brown while medic is Dr.

Alon Duby.

A fighter within five pounds of the 135lb weight is being sought for Godfrey Smith. Co-ordinator Mansfield Smith can be contacted at 297-0518.

A $5 admission fee will be charged.

The next boxing card will be at Wellington Oval on July 15. Another card is planned for the Naval Base in the first or second week of August.
