Phone records were introduced by the defence yesterday suggesting that those who allegedly conspired to set up cricket star and schoolteacher Dean Minors as a drug courier, made several phone calls immediately in the wake of Minors' arrest.

And the names of Greg Foggo and Herbie Bascome continued to surface before the seven-woman, five-man jury, suggesting they were an integral part of an alleged conspiracy.

Defence lawyer, John Perry QC, called on Bermuda Telephone Company (BTC) employee Helen Minors - suggested to be no relation to the accused - to testify about a series of calls made from Mr. Foggo's phone number to Minors and his parents' residence.

The calls, suggested Mr. Perry, were made after the Orlando, Florida charter flight arrived at 8.20 p.m. on January 1, 2001.

Minors, 32, has denied charges of importation with intent to supply cannabis.

He was arrested coming into the Island with a box containing wooden dresser drawer panels stuffed with ten bags of cannabis.

Minors testified he had no knowledge the box contained drugs, saying it belonged to Mr. Foggo.

He said he was bringing it back as a favour for his friend, who was in Florida around the same time as Minors.

Minors said Mr. Foggo would call him to pick up the box, once he returned to the Island.

The defence documented that Mr. Foggo's calls made at 5.21 p.m. to Minors' parents' home, 8.44 p.m. to Minors' home and at Minors' girlfriend's Orlando residence in the early hours, suggested that Minors was being sought.

The BTC employee also identified a number called to Huntsville, Alabama, from Mr. Foggo's number on January 2.

The jury has heard that the dresser drawer was purchased from a Walmart store in Alabama.

But Crown counsel Graveney Bannister, countered saying that although the calls were made from Mr. Foggo's residence, anyone could have made the calls.

However in an effort to give credence to the testimony of the phone records, Mr. Perry called Minors' mother, Tonia Minors to the stand.

She said she took the call at 5.21 p.m. on January 1 and spoke to the same man at 1.47 a.m. following the arrest of Minors - she said he identified himself as Gregg Foggo.

She said in an effort to call one of her son's friends to find out about his arrest, she accidentally called Mr. Foggo's number by mistake.

She said his number was on her telephone caller id box.

"I didn't know the number of Dean's friend," Mrs. Minors said. "He had called me earlier in the day. I looked at the maestro and picked out the two numbers I didn't recognise. I dialled one and Greg identified himself. It was early in the morning and I apologised for calling. He asked me if Dean was home and I told him he is in Bermuda, but he is not home yet - and that was the end of the conversation."

She continued: "Greg called me right back immediately, and he said 'you sound a bit anxious, do you want me to go to the airport and get him?'"

Mr. Perry asked: "Did you tell Mr. Foggo Dean was at the airport?"

"No," Mrs. Minors replied. "I just told him he was in Bermuda. I told Greg he didn't have to go and get Dean."

Earlier, Minors finished his cross examination surrounding the night he was arrested, maintaining that he was not aware of the contents of the box.

The case continues before Assistant Justice Archibald Warner today and is expected to near a close before Thursday.
