Two men brandishing machetes robbed a 56-year-old outside the Maxi Mart in Sandys on Tuesday.

The robbery happened at 11.55 p.m. The victim, a minibus driver from Warwick, was about to get into his vehicle when a machete cut him. The two men then robbed him of a change purse before running off.

The 56-year-old was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment; however his injury is not believed to be life threatening.

This incident was the second one where a man was robbed by individuals with weapons in a five-day span.

Last Friday four masked men — one wielding a gun and another with a machete — pounced on Calworth Furbert outside his Hamilton Parish home and demanded cash.

The suspects from Tuesday's incident at Maxi Mart are described as two light brown skinned men of slim build, approximately 5 ft. 8 in. and believed to be in their 20s. One young man had short hair and was wearing an orange shirt while the other was wearing a white T-shirt and had no facial hair.

Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010.
