Police say a huge presence over the Cup Match holiday has paid off, despite 27 people being arrested for drug possession at the Sizzla concert at Shelly Bay on Wednesday night.

Two people were arrested for assaulting Police and one person was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

There was also a large Police contingent on duty for the Bounty Killer concert at St. David's Cricket Club on Thursday night and three men were arrested for drug possession.

Police had been primed about likely gang clashes between town and country elements at Cup Match.

For the first time, metal detectors were posted at the entrances to Somerset Cricket Club for the event.

Police and club officials had been anxious to avoid risking a repeat of the Wellington Oval clashes in April where gangs used machetes, swords and knifes at a football match.

Extra Police including riot squad officers, police reserve units and plain clothes officers were drafted in for the cricket and concerts.

Rumours had circulated about hooligans planting weapons at the concert venues.

However Police spokesman Dwayne Caines said the zero tolerance policy bolstered by extra Police numbers had paid off.

He said: "The Bermuda Police Service is pleased to report it has been a relatively uneventful Cup Match so far, without any major incidents taking place as of yet."

Police reported a Warwick man has been arrested for drunk driving after crashing into two cycles in a head-on collision in Harbour Road on Wednesday night.

The 45-year-old man was driving west and overtook a vehicle on a blind left hand bend and ploughed into the bikers coming the other way near the junction with Morgan's Road.

The pair were treated for minor injuries.

Despite the huge number of boats out on the water there was little to report apart from two people being pulled to safety after their 21-foot boat started taking on water about a mile west of Dockyard.

The crew called for help on Thursday morning and fishing boat The Defender arrived within 15 minutes and crew helped bail out the boat before towing it to the safety of Robinson's Marina.
