Southampton man smashed up ex-girlfriend’s laptop, apartment

Kicking and stomping on an girlfriends laptop resulted in a $300 fine for a Southampton man, along with an order to repay the damage.Quinton Baisden, 27, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court yesterday to two counts of causing wilful damage in a single incident.Prosecutor Cindy Clarke told the court that on February 18, officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a Warwick home.When they arrived on scene, they found the house in a state of disarray with broken glass and liquid on the floor and a laptop computer with shoe marks.They were told that Baisden was in an argument with Mandy Scott, his then girlfriend, and in a fit of rage kicked and stomped on her laptop.He also damaged other property in the home, including a printer owned by the girlfriend’s mother. The total damage caused in the incident was estimated at $1,450.Baisden was then arrested and charged with two counts of causing wilful damage, with one count related to the computer and the second relating to the printer and other items owned by the girlfriend’s mother.After admitting the offence, Baisden apologised, saying: “It was an argument that got out of control. It won’t happen again sir.”Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Baisden $300 for each of the two charges, and ordered that he pay $1,450 in restitutions by April 30, or face four months in prison.
