Woman who drank gets road ban after crash

A Southampton woman appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday after Police arrested her for impaired driving.

The court heard from Senior Crown counsel Carrington Mahoney that Police saw a single vehicle accident on Harrington Sound Road around 10 p.m. last Tuesday.

They noticed scattered branches around the vehicle and the driver, Catarina Bulhoes-Rocha, had blood on her lips.

When Police asked the Camp Hill resident if she needed help she declined and said she was all right.

Police noticed her speech was slurred, she was unsteady on her feet and smelled of alcohol. When asked if she had been drinking she said: "Yes, I had three Heinekens."

She was arrested and taken to Southside Police Station.

Bulhoes-Rocha apologised to the court and Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo awarded her 12 demerit points, one year driving disqualification and a $500 fine.
