Local pair make their mark

Bermuda's young sailors made their presence felt against top international competition during last week's Renaissance Re Junior Gold Cup.

Optimist sailors James Anfossi and Brian Bulhoes placed second and third respectively during the junior regatta held in the Great Sound.

The Island's two representatives sailed consistently throughout the 13-race series and were among those who were able to gain valuable experience sailing in a variety of weather conditions.

Denmark's Jes Lyhne Bonde won last week's event with the low score of 37 points after making two drops.

Bonde, who placed fifth overall in the same event last year, also demonstrated consistency in posting two bullets, three seconds and nine top-five finishes overall.

Bonde's fellow countrymen Balder Tobiasen (54 pts) finished fourth followed closely by Sweden's Jesper Gunneling who rounded out the top five with 57 points.

"The sailors got the full schedule of races," race chairman Ron Stan commented. "They saw everything from five to 28 knots."
