Trio wins scholarships
Three Bermudians studying various occupations have been awarded with the Sir John Plowman Scholarship Award.
The three are Dion Steede, a student at the New England Institute of Technology who is currently studying for a career in Computer Information Technology, Nicole Joell who attends Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada where she is studying to be a nurse, and Tareek Somner who is attending St. Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where he is studying to be an accountant.
Michael Plowman, son of the late Sir. John Plowman said: “I am so very proud to be able to award these fine young Bermudians with their awards on behalf of my late father. I have an immense sense of pride to be a part of the further education of young Bermudian professionals and I particularly pleased for Dion, Tareek and Nicole in their quest to attain educational goals and trust that these scholarship awards will provide the financial assistance for them to continue in their quest to attain their educational goals.”
The selection committee included Mr. Plowman, HWP Group chairman Don Mackenzie, Jonathan Brewin, president and CEO and Jocene Wade, vice president of human resources.
Applicants must be either full time employees of the HWP Group or achild of a full-time employee residing with their parents. The employee must have been employed for no less than five years with the company.
