Rawlins' hat-trick sparks Canaries

Rhonda Rawlins scored her second hat-trick of the season as Canaries dominated this game -- and the score might have been higher had not Orioles' defence fought a strong rearguard action.

Rawlins struck her first after a penalty corner, receiving the ball from Michelle Ming before slamming home a hard shot from the top of the circle.

Orioles equalised shortly after the break when Sharon Smith scored following a square pass from Lisa Ray. But then the Yellows came into their own.

Rawlins netted her second from a pass by Emma Garon and then bagged her hat-trick following a clever dribble. Ming netted the fourth from a penalty stroke after an illegal stop in the D.

Cardinals A 3 Swifts A 0 Cardinals were rewarded for their dominance with a goal in the 19th minute, courtesy of Edna-Mae Tuzo, and a second five minutes later from Laura Bardgett.

But from then on the Swifts defence, well marshalled by Sharmani Thamotheram, held firm until the 65th minute when Michelle Clarke's shot from the top of the D was enough to cement the win for Cardinals.

Swallows A 0 Bluebirds A 2 Bluebirds claimed victory thanks to their superior accuracy in passing in a very fast-paced game.

Swallows fielded Danielle Skinner and Tiffany Sousa, both back from college, in a bid to strengthen their defence, but it was not enough to stop Bluebirds taking a first-half lead through Sarah Maltby.

Although Swallows had a good deal of pressure, forcing several short corners, they were unable to take advantage and it was Bluebirds who added a second after the break, again through Maltby.

This time, though, the scorer owed much to Collette Doughty who skilfully dribbled her way into the D before laying the ball off to Maltby who flicked it into the net.

Orioles B 1 Canaries B 3 Linda Pollett opened the scoring for Canaries with a fabulous shot from the top of the D after a short corner penalty, but Linda Perry snatched the equaliser with an equally good effort early in the second period.

Ten minutes later, though, Ally Cameron restored the Yellows' lead following a scuffle in the circle before captain Lakiba Remple made sure of the win, netting after a pass from Georgie Barbosa.

Swifts B 0 Cardinals B 0 A spirited game ended scoreless despite a number of opportunities for both sides.

Swifts were strong in the first half, their teamwork proving problematic for Cardinals, but forwards Erica Frith and Fiona Lee were unable to convert the chances that came their way. In the second half, Cardinals upped the tempo but could find no way through the strong Swifts defence.

Bluebirds B 4 Swallows 0 Bluebirds played a strong offensive game against Swallows, with Candy-Lee Foggo putting them ahead in the first half. Then Vivienne Taylor struck twice in three minutes in the second-half.

Two minutes later, Deanna Hunter dribbled the ball around the sweeper and crashed the ball into the net following a 40-yard run to complete the scoring.
