Duane Lowe, 19, of Sound View Road, who works at Mini Forwarders and Andre Philpott, 18, of Fairhaven Lane, a busboy at the Pickled Onion restaurant, both pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday to the theft.

Lowe, who is currently serving with the Bermuda Regiment and training to become a Lance Corporal, told Police he and Philpott took the bench from the Railway Trail in Southampton during the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Junior Crown counsel Veronica Gordon said the men had been arrested on a separate matter when a search of their vehicle, a Toyota van, revealed the $300 bench.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis took into consideration the age of the defendants and the fact that they had been in custody since their arrest. He sentenced each of them to be bound over in the sum of $500.
