Kavin warms up for Derby defence

Top road runner Kavin Smith warms up for the defence of his May 24 Marathon Derby title tomorrow when he competes in the second annual RMS Construction 20 kilometre race.

Smith, bidding for an unprecedented 10th Derby crown, will be a hot favourite to win tomorrow?s event, which starts and finishes at BAA Field.

But the real race could unravel in the Masters division (over 40s) which is often more competitive than the Open division.

Leading marathoner Brett Forgesson will be running his first race as a Master but faces some stiff competition in the form of Andrew Wadman and race organiser/sponsor Ricky Sousa.

In the women?s field, Lynn Patchett and Anna Eatherley will again be battling for supremacy ? and a psychological edge ahead of next month?s Derby ? although Eatherley is now also running as a Master.

The race gets underway from BAA at 9.00 a.m. and late entries will be accepted prior to the start.
