The prize presentation and banquet for the 1993-94 hockey season was held on the weekend and was typically an evening of high spirits, and even more so

Their captain, John Varnish, made several trips to the podium, and left at the end of the evening needing assistance to carry all the silverware.

The most important presentation of the night was for league champions. The final figures for Chameleons' season are a clear indication that they were never seriously challenged for this position. In 12 games they were undefeated and had only two draws. Their goal tally was quite impressive with 40 scored and only six conceded.

Trophies won also included the knockout cup, a competition never previously won by Chameleons. The final was played in March between Chameleons and Wasps and after a closely-fought first half, goals by Rick Morris and two excellent strikes by James Broadbelt left Chameleons with a comfortable 3-0 victory and a clean sheet for the competition.

Personal awards on the weekend were also dominated by Chameleons. Most Valuable Player went to Gary White for his consistently impressive performances throughout the season. He was also honoured by his team-mates with their own MVP award.

The top goal-scorer for the season was also from the Chameleons ranks, won by Martin Ford whose 12 goals in as many games sealed the title -- a fitting way to end his time on the island.

However, a mention must be made of Rick Morris whose seven goals were scored in only half the season and who was subsequently named as Chameleons' most improved player.

With most of the silverware now claimed, it left just the league's most improved player to be announced. That went to Julian Wheddon for his efforts in goal for Upstarts, the league's latest addition.

A mention was also made in appreciation of three players who had given their time throughout the season to umpire games and a presentation was made to Mike Botelho as most valuable umpire.

DARTS DRT The Onions edged the Limeys 3-2 and The Rest squeezed out a 5-4 win over the Onions in two select matches last weekend in the women's league.

Onions caused a big upset in the first game by beating favourites Limeys, despite captain Sheila Willoughby starting her team off with a 2-0 victory over Onions captain Margaret Pickering. Lois Virgil tied it up with a 2-0 win over Jean Clark.

Then Elizabeth Simons came through to put her team ahead by beating Doris Pickering 2-0. This time, Limeys equalised when Margaret Bleeker beat Lynn Somner 2-1 to make it 2-2 overall.

June Bleeker of Onions sealed the win with her 2-0 success over Dawn Bealing.

Limeys had held the trophy since 1991.

In the other game The Rest beat the Onions 5-4 in a see-saw contest. Captain Judy Semos started her team off with her 2-0 victory over Onions captain Karen Hutton.

However, by the eighth game there was still nothing separating the two teams as Agatha Dickinson of the Onions made it 4-4 with her win. Joan Burrows clinched The Rest's win with the final win of the night.
