Acting Magistrate Archie Warner slapped the arrest order on Sean Reginald Tucker after the he failed to show up for his trial on Tuesday.

Tucker, of Broken Hill Lane in Smith's, is charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Zambian running star Charles Mulinga outside Front Street club Odyssey on January 19.

Mulinga had been out after celebrating his win in the International Race Weekend 10K.

Prosecutor Larry Mussenden asked for the warrant to be issued. There was no lawyer in court to represent Tucker.

CABBIE ESCAPES ATTEMPTED ROBBERY CRM Cabbie escapes attempted robbery Police are still appealing for anyone who may have witnessed an attempted theft from a taxi driver.

The incident happened at about 1.30 p.m. on Saturday when the cabby, driving a green Mitsubishi four door saloon type taxi, picked up two young men at the junction of Church and Queen Streets before taking them to Spice Hill Road in Warwick.

On reaching their destination the two men asked the driver to take them to a secluded spot near Westmount Lane where the pair tried to take money from his pocket.

The taxi driver was able to escape from the cab but the two men then released the vehicle's handbrake causing it to roll down the road and crash.

The two culprits are described as being about 17 years old with Bermudian accents and about five-feet-seven-inches tall.

One of the men is dark skinned and was wearing a blue hat and white tee-shirt and was carrying a headphone set.

His accomplice is described as light skinned.

Anyone who has any information on the incident is asked to contact Inspector Liverpool at Western CID on 234 1010.

BURGLAR ASSAULTS OCCUPANT CRM Burglar assaults occupant A Devonshire Parish man was hit in the face after disturbing a robber in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The 26-year-old female occupant of the house woke at about 2 a.m. and when her fiance went to investigate he came face-to-face with a masked intruder who hit him with a solid weapon.

The robber then fled, dropping a stolen wallet in the escape.

His victim is not thought to have received serious injuries in the attack.

THREE ARRESTED ON DRUGS CHARGES CRM Three arrested on drugs charges Police detectives arrested three Somerset men on drug charges early yesterday morning.

A Police spokeswoman said the men -- aged 24, 26 and 38 years old -- are expected to appear before the court in due course.

POLICE NAB `SUSPICIOUS' CHARACTER CRM Police nab `suspicious' character Police arrested a 28-year-old Pembroke man on Monday for stealing drinks from a Washington Lane store.

A police spokeswoman said a security guard notified the authorities after witnessing a "suspicious looking man'' with a package of beverages.

And the guard provided a description of the suspect.

Investigators later discovered the items had been removed from a nearby store which had been broken into.

The suspect is expected to appear in court.

Also on Monday, a security guard at the Hamilton Hotel notified Police that a staff member was stealing a bag of onions, two boxes of tea, and a container of gravy mix.

The 53-year-old Jamaican national was arrested, but later released on bail.

ACCIDENT INQUEST VERDICT DELAYED INQ Accident inquest verdict delayed The family of a senior who died following a road accident will have to wait another week before a formal verdict is entered on his death.

Some witnesses in the inquest of Leon Pike did not appear at the hearing and Acting Magistrate Archie Warner adjourned the remainder of the inquest until next Friday, so witnesses can be summoned.

Mr. Pike, 71, of Green Acres Road, Devonshire, died in the intensive care unit of King Edward VII Memorial Hospityal in February 1997 -- two days after an accident in which his car hit a wall.

The inquest heard from witness Percy Wall that Mr. Pike's car lost control and hit a wall, then a building. He said there was nothing else on the road at the time.

But Dr. Constance Richards, a consultant who treated the senior, said he told her that he lost control whilst trying to avoid an accident.

Mr. Pike hit the steering wheel and windscreen of his car, suffering multiple injuries.

Whilst in hospital, Mr. Pike, a diabetic who had suffered from heart disease in the past, deteriorated and died shortly afterwards.

An autopsy revealed severe coronary artery disease and a possible heart attack at some point in the past -- which made survival from his injuries unlikely.
