Govt. issues money laundering pamphet

Government?s National Anti-Money Laundering Committee is distributing a new leaflet to increase public awareness about money laundering and the financing of terrorism.

Entitled ?Fighting Crime & Terrorism: You Can Help?, the leaflet aims to educate the public about the possibility of criminals using false identities or taking the names of innocent people to assist in turning their illicit funds into clean money.

It also outlines procedures that regulated institutions such as banks must follow in order to confirm the true identity of customers requesting their services.

The leaflets have been distributed to the regulated institutions, post offices and various Government departments as part of Bermuda?s ongoing efforts to ensure that members of the public are aware of the country?s initiatives to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism.

In addition, the National Anti-Money Laundering Committee is in the process of finalising its web-site which will contain up-to-date information on Bermuda?s current anti-money laundering policies and practices, access to the relevant anti-money laundering legislation, statistical and background information as well as appropriate contacts.
