Somerset picked up their first league win of the season yesterday, handing Village a 3-1 loss that added to their recent misery.

In a match that began with some attractive play from both teams culminating in end-to-end exchanges and some rough tackles, Somerset prevailed thanks to two late goals.

Village coach Scott Morton, in an effort to halt his team's recent decline, brought in brothers Kentoine and Kevin Jennings but in the end their presence made little difference.

Still winless since trying to change their nickname from Red Devils to Rams, Village threatened after new signing Clay Smith had eqaulised for his new club. But a vigilant Trojans front line, spearheaded by Marvin Belboda, Dwight Basden and Tokia Russell, made sure Bermuda national coach Mark Trott would reap his first win in charge of the west end club.

Trott referred all comments afterwards to team captain Richard Scott.

"I spoke to the guys before the match and told them that our biggest problem was our attitude on the pitch, everyone playing individually when in essence this is a team sport," said a relieved Scott after the final whistle. "Today we displayed a good all-round team effort, so hence the victory!"

Trojans took the match to the visitors from the outset after pressure from Basden deep in Village territory enabled the forward to dispossess defender Michael Hansey on the left and then send in a good cross that was smashed home by n Belboda.

But Smith drew the visitors level after 55 minutes, converting a cross from the right from an overlapping Kentoine Jennings.

However, it was Someset who grabbed the points with two goals late in the half. Sheridan (Baldy) Ming struck in the 70th minute with a right-footed shot from the edge of the area following a pass from Belboda

Then substitute Dion Stovell put the icing on the cake a few moments before the final whistle with a fierce drive.
