Locals wishing to cash in on jobs currently held by expatriates should get hold of the latest edition of The Bermuda Occupations Outlook Handbook.

From actuaries and brokers to waitresses and bakers there are a wealth of jobs available according to the free Government handbook.

Careers dominated by guest workers include cooking where there were just 146 Bermudians compared to 610 foreigners, according to 1999 figures and the actuary profession where the ratio was 58:7.

The book helps people assess jobs people are suited to and tells them how to get them.

There is a list of contacts, including overseas institutions, books and websites for further information. Labour Minister Terry Lister said the user-friendly handbook would appeal to first-time job seekers and those looking to change their career. He said: "This fully revised and authoritative publication fulfils Government's ongoing commitment to highlight those skills and jobs that Bermuda will need in the coming years.

"It is an attractive publication that all readers will find interesting and an invaluable guide for helping them make decisions about careers."

The book can be found from the Department of Training and Employment Services in the Ingham and Wilkinson Building at 94 Reid Street. It is also available at Bookmart, Washington Mall Magazines and the Bermuda Book Store.
