Mr. Trott was accused of attacking Kenneth Brangman, a caddy at the Mid Ocean Golf Club with a knife.

Mr. Trott contended that he pulled the knife out in self-defence, when Mr.

Brangman hit him in the back with a golf club. The dispute was over money that Mr. Brangman allegedly owed to Mr. Trott.

Acting Pusine Judge Archibald Warner handed the case over to the jury by 11 a.m. They finished deliberating by lunch, when the unanimous verdict was handed to the judge.

CAUSES OF FIRE UNDER INVESTIGATION FIR Cause of fire under investigation A Hilltop Drive apartment unit in Southampton was torched in the early hours Wednesday morning.

The Fire Service contained the blaze to a single room but a Police spokesman said: "The room was extensively damaged by the flames. Fortunately, there were no injuries to any of the occupants.

"There does not appear to have been any suspicious circumstances involved,'' the spokesman added.

Fire investigators are conducting an inquiry into the cause of the single-room fire.
