43-year-old man who admitted receiving stolen goods.

Part-time deli worker, John Philpott, sobbed loudly as Mrs. Mapp told him he would have to spend nearly five weeks at Westgate Correctional Facility until a social inquiry report was completed.

Philpott, of Cedar Park, Devonshire, pleaded guilty to receiving a stolen red Yamaha RX100 that was taken from Prospect Primary.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Anthony Mouchette told the court that the owner of the cycle left work around 4.30 p.m. on January 29 to discover that his bike was missing from the parking lot.

Weeks later, acting on a tip, he found his bike minus the frame and engine in Philpott's yard, Sgt. Mouchette added. The owner pushed it across the street to Prospect Primary were he called the Police.

Upon searching Philpott's residence Police uncovered the missing frame and engine and placed him under arrest.

Yesterday, Mrs. Mapp ordered a social inquiry report on Philpott who prior to the offence did not have a criminal record.

But duty counsel Elizabeth Christopher objected, saying: "He did what he did out of necessity, sending him to Westgate is not going to make him feel any worse.'' However, Mrs. Mapp was not to be swayed.

"You should feel shameful, you should feel shame...,'' she told Philpott.

"Your an adult doing this sort of thing. What does that say to young people? You and other people like you out there need to get the message.''
