and was suspended from driving any vehicle for 12 months after he pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence of alcohol and to driving with unfastened headgear.

He was observed by Police in the early hours of August 10 travelling east on Cavendish Road. His rear cycle tyre was flat, the exhaust appeared defective and his cycle was meandering, Sgt. Anthony Mouchette told Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp.

He was pulled over for a vehicle inspection when officers smelled alcohol on his breath and noticed his eyes appeared to be glazed.

Treur appealed unsuccessfully to Ms Mapp against a blanket ban on driving, saying he needed a vehicle to get to work.

"That's what taxis are for,'' she replied.

ALLEGED ATTACKER IN COURT FOR MENTION CTS Alleged attacker in court for mention The man accused of a serious sexual assault, attack, and robbery of a Canadian Senator and his two companions on August 12 appeared yesterday in court for mention and was remanded in custody until his next court appearance September 13.

The accused, who cannot be identified for legal restrictions, appeared before Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp sporting prison orange and a haircut. He was represented by lawyer Archie Warner.

POLICE TO CRACK DOWN ON MOTORBIKES POL Police to crack down on motorbikes Police will be cracking down on motorcycle offences that have become commonplace on Bermuda's roads.

Spokesman P.c. Gary Venning yesterday sounded the warning.

He said patrol officers will be focusing particularly on noisy cycles and those with dirty or obstructed registration plates "which are often deliberately covered with grease and mud or obstructed by Kryptonite locks''.

STUCK HOT HOT DOGS DOWN HIS PANTS CTS Stuck hot hot dogs down his pants A Somerset man yesterday pleaded guilty in Magistrate's Court to stealing eight jumbo hot dogs from Arnold's Supermarket on Main Road. Albert C. Bremar, a 37-year-old construction worker was observed by store staff stuffing the hot dogs down the front of his track pants and admitted the theft when confronted by Police, Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp was told.

He was fined $50 or five days in jail for the offence.

MAN IS SET UPON BY THUGS OVER DEBT CTS Man is set upon by thugs over debt A 31-year-old man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital on Thursday evening after he was assaulted by two men.

Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning said Police were investigating the incident which occurred around 8:50 p.m. near the St. Monica's mission in Pembroke.

The Pembroke man told Police he was walking along St. Monica's Road when he was approached by two men who beat him about the head and body.

P.c. Venning said the man sustained cuts and bruising and a possible fractured rib in the incident, which was believed to have been the result of an unpaid debt. Witnesses should contact Police.

CAR GOES UP IN FLAMES, DRIVER UNHURT FIR Car goes up in flames, driver unhurt A Mitsubishi Lancer was totally destroyed early Wednesday afternoon when it became consumed in flames on Watford Bridge.

The estimated damage is $20,000 but the driver, Neville Gilbert escaped without injury.

Mr. Gilbert is understood to have sprayed the underside of the car with ordinary black enamel paint which may have landed on the exhaust manifold.

Fortunately he had gotten out of the car when the vehicle burst into flames and was completely gutted.

TAKEN OFF THE ROAD, BUT DROVE ANYWAY CTS Taken off the road, but drove anyway A man who is disqualified to drive until 1999 was fined $500 and given a concurrent 18-month licence suspension after he pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to driving while disqualified.

Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp yesterday told Erik K. Dunkley it made no sense to impose another driving ban because he still had three years pending on his initial sentence.
