Lionel Freights, 48, who had received a suspended three-month prison sentence in September for an unrelated offence, had the sentence activated yesterday after he pleaded guilty to breaking and entering an office building on Burnaby Street.

The court heard that Freights turned himself into Police after he broke into the office on December 20, looking for money to support his drug and alcohol addictions.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Anthony Mouchette said Freights broke the glass door which led into the building's main lobby, but was unable to open any of the interior doors.

Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl-Ann Mapp told Freights she would give him his Christmas wish, since he had "gone out of his way to make sure he was in custody for Christmas''.

Mrs. Mapp ordered Freights to return to court on February 8 for sentencing.
