Spokesman P.c. Gary Venning said the investigating officer would like to speak to one man -- driving a jeep-type vehicle -- who is believed to have called the ambulance to the scene.

A second man was helping Mr. Berkeley at the scene. A third man wearing light coloured clothing was directing traffic.

Anyone with information about the accident -- Mr. Berkeley was found lying unconscious on Cavendish Road in Pembroke near the junction with Spurling Hill around 4.30 p.m. on August 6 -- is asked to call P.c. Donville Yarde at Hamilton Police Station at 295-0011.

CHEQUE FORGER WANTED TO FEED SON CTS Cheque forger wanted to feed son A 24-year-old mother who admitted forging a cheque to support her son received a year's probation yesterday.

Wendy Lightbourne, of Alexander Road, Devonshire, pleaded guilty in June in Magistrates' Court to stealing a Bank of Butterfield cheque belonging to a St.

George's man and forging it at the Garden Market for $100 worth of groceries.

The court was told that Lightbourne used the cheque to buy food for her six-year-old son because she was in dire financial circumstances since her son's father kicked her and the child out of the house.

Lightbourne had also lost her job as an Airport security officer as a result of the incident.

Yesterday Senior Magistrate Will Francis told Lightbourne that he found her case "tragic''.

He said he hoped the loss of her job and the shame associated with the case would help her to "get a grip'' on her life.

VISITOR FINED $400 CTS Visitor fined $400 A visitor caught smoking cannabis by Police found himself $400 poorer yesterday.

Lenwall Joahie, a Jamaican who lives in Miami, admitted in Magistrates' Court to possessing 4.07 grams of cannabis.

Prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne said narcotics officers found Joahie smoking a homemade cigarette in the kitchen at the Spinning Wheel Apartments on Court Street on August 13.

FINE FOR SEEDS CTS Fine for seeds A 26-year-old man who tried to bring cannabis seeds into the Island was fined $150 yesterday.

Christopher Stauder, of South Road, Southampton, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to possessing the drug.

Prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne said 21 cannabis seeds were found in Stauder's luggage when he arrived in Bermuda via the Airport on May 7.

TRIAL ADJOURNED CTS Trial adjourned The trial of Royal Gazette sports editor Adrian Robson has been set over to the afternoon of October 21.

Robson, 43, of Pembroke, has pleaded not guilty to one charge of unlawful assault on his wife. The offence is alleged to have occurred on January 16, 1996.
