The Department of Planning yesterday approved Bermuda Housing Corporation?s application for ?additions and renovations? to four Anchorage Road, St. George?s homes.

Units seven, nine, 11 and 13 can be renovated as soon as building permits are granted, the Development Applications Board ruled.

Additional bedrooms, bathrooms, access stairs and water tanks are to be built for each unit.

United Bermuda Party Senator Kim Swan, who told that he ?was speaking on behalf of the residents? said he did not think that any formal objections to the plans had been submitted.

?First, they (the residents) didn?t know of any plans, and second, the residents were under the impression that the units were being renovated for their use,? Sen. Swan said.

Sen. Swan said he was: ?holding out hope Government has had a rethink and they are renovating to charge reasonable rents?.

He said he wrote to Housing Minister Ashfield DeVent, but had had no reply. He also said that he spoke with the minister yesterday and was under the impression that Mr. DeVent was going to talk directly with the residents.

Last night Sen. Swan said that as far as he could tell, Mr. DeVent had not yet contacted them.
