Award-winning films put spotlight on Island?s coral reefs

Two award-winning documentaries about Bermuda?s coral reefs will be screened on the Island on Friday.

?The Perfect Reef? and ?The Circle of Life?, featuring footage filmed in Bermuda in 2004 and interviews with scientists from Bermuda Biological Station for Research (BBSR), will be shown at 7.30 p.m. at BBSR?s Hanson Hall in St. George?s.

The films, featuring underwater cinematography and a close-up look at marine life, are part of the Reef Series, shot by Anita and Guy Chaumette of Liquid Motion Film.

Alison Shadbolt, BBSR spokeswoman, said: ?Since Bermuda and BBSR are featured in these beautiful and important underwater documentaries, the public has shown great interest in the films so far.

?The series, which features Bermuda and our coral reefs, has already won awards at film festivals around the world and will be showing at many more throughout the year.?

Admission to the film is $10/$5 for donors and students (18 and under) and space is limited. To reserve a place call 297-1880 ext. 204 or e-mail vshortobbsr.edu. Proceeds from the evening will benefit BBSR?s marine research and educational programmes. For more information visit www.bbsr.edu/involved/events06/movies06/movies06.html.
