The ninth person to be charged in connection with the Wellington Oval disturbance appeared in Magistrates? Court yesterday to face an attempted murder charge.

Tahir Bascome, 22, of Dunscombe Road, Warwick, did not enter a plea because the charge is indictable and he will be tried in Supreme Court.

On top of the charge for attempted murder of Tariq Foster, Bascome was charged with possession of an offensive weapon (machete) and going to a public place in a manner to cause terror to persons present.

The alleged incident occurred on April 4 at Wellington Oval in St. George?s. Crown counsel Wayne Caines objected to bail and asked that Bascome be remanded in custody until his trial.

Ed Bailey, who represents Bascome, said: ?In light of the facts I cannot make a bail application at this time.?

Mr. Bailey explained that it was his first time hearing the facts and he needed to take instructions from his client.

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves remanded Bascome in custody and set a mention date for June 9.

Four men are currently on trial in connection with the violence at Wellington Oval and four others are awaiting trial.
