The Southampton resort is aiming, if all permissions are granted, to spend between $2.5 and $3 million on 12 new guest units and a second restaurant during winter 2001/2002.

Spokesman Larry Lamb said the scheme, if it goes ahead, would bring the total number of guests up to between 130 and 140. It is likely they would also apply for an order under the new Hotels Concession Act.

In the meantime, the hotel is embarking on renovations and additions to its existing facilities.

Starting November, they intend to double the existing bar size and fitness room, creating a new kitchen at the same time. There will also be some work on guest bathrooms.

Mr. Lamb said the additions would make it easier to look after all the guests at Pompano.

"What we have found is that the existing facilities, which were built in 1956, aren't able to comfortably accommodate all the guests and entertainment we have.'' Work, if planning permission is granted, is not expected to inconvenience guests.
