XL Capital Ltd has appointed Eugene M. McQuade to its board of directors.

Mr. McQuade was formerly president of Bank of America and prior to that was president and chief operating officer of FleetBoston Financial.

XL chairman Michael P. Esposito Jr. said: “We welcome the addition of Gene McQuade to our board. I believe we will greatly benefit from his business and financial experience as we continue to build value for XL's shareholders.”

Brian M. O'Hara, XL president and chief executive officer, said: “Gene McQuade is joining us at a time when we are continuing to add to our capabilities in financially-oriented businesses and products.

“His knowledge and vast experience of the financial and capital markets will be immensely valuable in helping us guide the Company through this phase of our development.”

Wolovnick to head global sales

XL Capital Ltd. announced the appointment of Evelyn Wolovnick as senior vice president and head of global sales and marketing for its insurance operations.

In her newly created position, Ms Wolovnick will be responsible for integrating global insurance sales and marketing, reporting to chief executive officer of regional sales and management Dennis Kane.

Chief executive of XL's insurance operations Clive Tobin said: “I am thrilled that Evelyn has agreed to join XL. Her background, perspective and experience will greatly help our efforts to more fully integrate the marketing and sales of XL's broad array of specialty insurance products.”

Mr. Kane said: “Evelyn's 32 years of industry experience will be invaluable as we leverage current client relationships and continue to expand our distribution channels. Her firsthand knowledge of insurance markets around the world will clearly support our efforts to capitalise on XL's global franchise.”

Ms Wolovnick began her career at Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc., in 1972.
